Bre Thomas
Bre Thomas is a scientist with an insatiable curiosity that has driven her to explore the world at the microscopic and macroscopic levels. She graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) with a bachelor’s degree in biology and conducted research during her undergraduate studies. One of the research projects focused on litter accumulation in waterways in OKC, where it was found that there were significant differences between rural and urban water. Her second project studied immunology and pathology of tick-borne pathogens in Oklahoma, where she conducted field research, identified tick species under a microscope, and used PCR to confirm species and pathogen presence—findings that were ultimately published.
Bre’s fascination and curiosity with science runs deep—so deep that when her hunter parents brought home game, she would eagerly request to keep hearts and brains just so she could dissect them.
Beyond her scientific achievements, Bre is a legendary crocheter whose skills are the stuff of myth and admiration. With fingers that move faster than the eye can follow, she can crochet an intricate plushie in the time it takes to brew a cup of tea. Her speed is rivaled only by her ambition—she once completed a life-sized crochet replica of her golden retriever, Shelby, using enough yarn to circle the globe twice. Bre’s patterns are sought after like hidden treasure, inspiring a new generation of crocheters to push the boundaries of fiber artistry. While she can unravel complex scientific problems with ease, she firmly believes that untangling a knot in yarn is a far greater challenge. If she could crochet anything, it would be a couch—a fitting testament to her ambition.
Whether wielding a crochet hook, a scalpel, or a pipette, Bre has always had a fearless sense of adventure and a knack for making the impossible seem effortless.
